Petroleum coke is a black or dark gray hard solid petroleum product with metallic luster and porosity. It is a carbon material composed of tiny graphite crystals formed into granular, columnar or needle-like shapes. Petroleum coke components are hydrocarbons, containing 90-97% carbon and 1.5-8% hydrogen, and also contain nitrogen, chlorine, sulfur and heavy metal compounds. The main uses of petroleum coke are prebaked anodes and anode pastes used in electrolytic aluminum, carbonizers for the carbon industry, graphite electrodes, smelting industrial silicon, and fuels.
The calcined petroleum coke recarburizer is produced at a temperature of about 1500 ° C in a forging smelting furnace, and the carbon content is about 98.5%. Used as a carbon refining agent in the metallurgical industry.

Another use for CPC is TiO2 production which accounts for about 15% of the CPC consumption. The reason for use in TiO2 is for its oxidizing effect. Metallurgical Industry is the remaining major area where CPC is used. The reason for use in Metallurgical Industry is the high Fixed Carbon level (low ash level) and moderate sulfur levels.
