Manganese ore products include metallurgical manganese ore, manganese carbonate ore powder, chemical manganese dioxide ore powder, and battery manganese dioxide ore powder. The metallurgical, light industry and chemical sectors that use manganese ore products have different quality requirements for manganese ore products according to different uses.
The metallurgical industry’s quality requirements for manganese ore
For steel-making pig iron, manganese pig iron, specular iron ores, the iron content is not limited, and the total content of manganese and iron in the ore is preferably 40%-50%.
In the smelting of various grades of manganese alloys, there are certain requirements for the manganese content of the ore and the ratio of manganese to iron. Smelting medium and low-carbon ferromanganese, the ore contains 36%-40% of manganese, the ratio of manganese to ferromanganese is 6-8.5, and the ratio of phosphorus to manganese is 0.002—0.0036; the smelting of carbon ferromanganese, the ore contains 33%-40% of manganese, and the ferromanganese Ratio of 3.8~7.8, ratio of phosphorus to manganese 0.002~0.005; smelting of manganese silicon alloy, ore content of manganese 29%~35%, ratio of manganese to iron 3.3~7.5, ratio of phosphorus to manganese 0.0016~0.0048; blast furnace ferromanganese, ore content of manganese 30 %, the ratio of manganese to iron is 2-7, and the ratio of phosphorus to manganese is 0.005.
The quality requirements of manganese ore in the chemical and light industry sectors
In the chemical industry, manganese ore is mainly used to prepare manganese dioxide, manganese sulfate, potassium permanganate, and secondarily used to prepare manganese carbonate, manganese nitrate and manganese chloride. Chemical grade manganese dioxide ore powder requires MnO2 content greater than 50% (Table 3.3.3), when manufacturing manganese sulfate, Fe≤3%, Al2O3≤3%, CaO≤0.5%, MgO≤0.1%; when manufacturing potassium permanganate , Fe≤5%, SiO2≤5%, Al2O3≤4%.
Natural manganese dioxide is a raw material for manufacturing dry batteries, and the higher the content of MnO2, the better. The general factory standards for harmful elements such as Ni, Cu, CO, Pb are: Cu<0.01%, Ni<0.03%, Co<0.02%, Pb<0.02%. The particle size of the mineral powder should be less than 0.12mm.
